Delicious Steamed Cheeseburger Recipe

Connecticut-style steamed cheeseburger with melted cheese, lettuce, and tomato on a toasted bun, served with fries.

This steamed cheeseburger features a beef patty cooked in a steamer, resulting in a moist texture, and is topped with a rich cheese sauce. The recipe takes about 30 minutes from start to finish and serves 4 people.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef (80/20 blend recommended)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 4 slices American cheese or cheese of choice
  • 4 hamburger buns
  • Condiments and toppings (lettuce, tomato, pickles, etc.)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Patties: In a bowl, gently mix the ground beef with salt and pepper. Form into 4 equal patties, making a slight indentation in the center of each to prevent puffing during cooking.
  2. Set Up the Steamer: Fill a pot with water and bring it to a simmer. Place a steamer basket or rack over the pot, ensuring it doesn’t touch the water.
  3. Steam the Patties: Place the patties in the steamer basket, cover, and steam for about 10-12 minutes, or until the internal temperature reaches 160°F (71°C).
  4. Add Cheese: In the last minute of cooking, place a slice of cheese on each patty, cover again, and steam until the cheese is melted.
  5. Toast the Buns: While the patties are steaming, toast the hamburger buns in a separate pan or under a broiler until golden brown.
  6. Assemble the Burgers: Place each steamed patty on a toasted bun and add your favorite condiments and toppings. Serve immediately.
