This French toast features thick slices of bread soaked in a creamy custard mixture, then cooked to golden perfection. The recipe takes about 30 minutes from start to finish and serves 4 people.

Ingredients

  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 8 slices of thick bread (such as brioche or challah)
  • Butter for cooking
  • Maple syrup for serving
  • Powdered sugar for dusting (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Custard: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, heavy cream, sugar, vanilla extract, and cinnamon until well combined.
  2. Soak the Bread: Dip each slice of bread into the custard mixture, allowing it to soak for a few seconds on each side. Ensure the bread is well coated but not overly soggy.
  3. Cook the French Toast: In a large skillet or griddle, melt a tablespoon of butter over medium heat. Place the soaked bread slices in the skillet and cook for 3-4 minutes on each side, or until golden brown.
